The Probert Encyclopaedia of Ships

RO 31

Ro 31 was a Japanese Kawasaki type coastal submarine of 655 tons displacement launched in the early-1920's. Ro 31 sank during trials in 1923, but was salvaged and rebuilt. She was powered by Fiat diesel engines providing a top speed of 13 knots surfaced and 10 knots submerged. She was armed with one 4.7 inch gun; one 3 pounder gun; and originally five, later four 21 inch torpedo tubes.
