ACADIA

Acadia was the original French name for the French province in North America which covered an area comprising what are now known as Nova Scotia, New Brusnwick and part of Maine. Acadia was settled by De Monts in 1604. The area was subsequently claimed by England and conquered in 1613 by Argall. James I passed the land to Sir William Alexander and in 1658 the french retook the land. In 1690 Acadia was conquered by Sir William Phipps and New England troops, but was retaken by the Drench in 1691 before in 1713 being passed to England under the treaty of Utrecht. In 1755 thousands of Acadian residents were deported by Britain to British provinces further south.
Acadia National Park is a national park in south Maine, USA, featuring granite mountains and coastal scenery. Acadia National Park was established in 1919 as Lafayette National Park and was the first US national park proclaimed east of the Mississippi River.
