Albany (formerly Frederickstown) is a port and the first town to be founded in Western Australia. The town was founded in 1826 as a British penal colony to prevent French settlement on the west coast.

Albany (originally Fort Nassau, later known as Fort Orange) is the capital city of New York state. It is located on the Hudson River in Albany County, New York, USA and was founded in 1624 as 'Fort Nassau' by Dutch immigrants. In 1664 when the English conquered the area the name was changed to Albany in honour of the Duke of Albany. In 1686 Albany was incorporated as a city, and in 1797 became the capital of the state.
