ARNHEM

Arnhem (Arnheim) is the provincial capital of Gelderland, Netherlands. The city is situated on a northern branch of the Rhine. In 1795 the town was stormed by the French, who were driven from it by the Prussians in 1813. During the Second World War the town was the scene of an unsuccessful attempt by Allied paratroops to capture the bridge in an operation known as Operation Market Garden in 1944.
