Augusta (originally known as Cushnoc) is a city in Kennebec County, Maine, USA. Augusta was founded in 1629 as Cushnoc and was devastated in the second Indian War afterwhcih it remained deserted until it was resettled in 1787. In 1832 Augusta became the capital of Maine, replacing Portland.
