BASING

Basing (known as Basengum in the 9th century and recorded in the Domesday Book as Basinges) was originally a settlement of a tribe led by Basa, and later the site of a Norman castle which was replaced in the 16th century by a Tudor mansion. It is a village just outside Basingstoke in Hampshire.
