BOTANY BAY

Botany Bay is an inlet or bay in New South Wales, on the east coast of Australia. Botany Bay was so called by Captain Cook on account of the great number of new plants collected in its vicinity. The English penal settlement, founded in 1788, and popularly known as Botany Bay, was established on Port Jackson, some miles to the northward, near where Sydney now stands.
