The Republic of Burkina Faso (formerly known as Upper Volta) is a country in western Africa. The language spoken is French, Moore and various other indigenous languages. The religon is Animist, Muslim and Roman catholic. The area became a province of French West Africa during the 1890s and in 1958 became a self-governing republic with full independence from France being realised in 1960.
