Cambridge (recorded in the Domesday Book as Cantebrigie) is a famous university town situated on the river Cam 80 km north of London in Cambridgeshire, England. The university was founded in the 13th century when scholars were hanged in Oxford, causing their colleagues to flee to Cambridge. A rival university was subsequently founded - Peterhouse college being founded in 1281 - which is now one of the best in the world.
