CHELMSFORD

Chelmsford (recorded in the Domesday Book as Celmeresfort) is a market town in Essex, England 48 km north-east of London. The town evolved around the Roman road between London and Colchester at the point where the rivers Can and Chelmer join. The modern town is based upon a new town which was planned by the Bishop of London in 1199.
