CHESAPEAKE BAY

Chesapeake Bay is the largest inlet on the Atlantic coast of the USA. It is noted for its history, ship activity, and seafood production. Its is partly in Maryland and partly in Virginia. Ships enter the bay from the Atlantic through its 21 km wide mouth between Cape Charles and Cape Henry. It is 311 km long, and ranges from 5 to 40 km wide, and is deep enough to accommodate oceangoing vessels.
