The Republic of Chile is a country in west South America. It is bordered by the Pacific. It has a total area of 756, 950 km2. The climate is temperate; desert in the north; cool and damp in the south. The terrain consists of low coastal mountains; a fertile central valley; and the rugged Andesmountains in the east. Natural resources are copper, timber, iron ore, nitrates, precious metals, molybdenum. The religion is 89% Roman Catholic, 11% Protestant, and a small Jewish population. The language is Spanish. The area now known as Chile was originally inhabited by the Auraucanician people, they were invaded in the 15th century by the Inca and subsequently by the Spanish in the middle of the 16th century.
