The Probert Encyclopaedia of Places of the World

ERZGEBIRGE

The Erzgebirge are a chain of European mountains forming a natural boundary between Saxony and Bohemia, nearly 190 km in length and 40 km broad. The highest summits, which are on the side of Saxony, rise to about 1160 metres. The mountains are rich in silver, iron, copper, lead, cobalt, arsenic, etc, hence their name (Ore Mountains in English).
