French Guiana is a country on the north coast of South America. It has a total area of 91,000 km2. The climate is tropical; hot and humid with little seasonal temperature variation. The terrain is low-lying coastal plains rising to hills and small mountains. Natural resources are bauxite, timber, gold (which is widely scattered), cinnabar, kaolin and fish.
