GIRONDE

Gironde is a department of France, on the Bay of Biscay, named from the Gironde estuary. It has an area of about 3610 square miles. The surface is generally flat, and almost the whole department belongs to the basin of the Gironde, which is formed by the junction of the Dordogne and Garonne. The climate is generally mild and extremely moist. The region is noted for its produrrion of Medoc, Graves, Cotes, and Entre-deux-Mers wines.
