Hastings (recorded in the Domesday Book as Hastinges) is a coastal town in Sussex, England. William the Conqueror invaded England at Hastings in 1066 where he defeated King Harold 2nd. The town originated from a Roman settlement and developed as a seaside resort from the middle of the 18th century.
