JAPAN

Nihon Koku (informally Japan) is a country in east Asia. It is comprised of several islands. It has a total area of 377,835 km2. The climate varies from tropical in the south to cool temperate in the north. The terrain is mostly rugged and mountainous. Natural resources are negligible mineral resources and fish. The religion is both Shinto and Buddhist with about 16% of the population belonging to other faiths, including 0.8% Christian. The language is Japanese. Japan was first contacted by Europeans in 1542, but in 1549 Japan introduced self-imposed isolation from the rest of the world, which was brutally ended by force when American warships attacked in the 19th century.
