JARROW

Jarrow is a town in north-east England on the Tyne estuary. It was the cultural jewel in the Northumbrian crown until the Viking invasions; the Venerable Bede lived and worked in its monastery. Its name is now associated with the hunger-marches to London that epitomised the despair of the economic depression of the 1930s.
