KHYBER PASS

The Khyber Pass is a narrow gap in the Hindu Kush mountains separating Afghanistan and Pakistan (formerly India). The Khyber Pass was the means by which India was invaded from time to time, and was the scene of severe conflicts in the Afghan War of the 19th century. The Khyber Pass is about 35 miles long, its summit is 3373 feet above sea-level, and on each side rise precipices from 600 to 1300 feet high.
