LITHUANIA

The Republic of Lithuania is a country in east Europe between Latvia and Poland. It was a Duchy of medieval Europe that became a part of Poland in a process that started in 1386 and was consummated in 1569 before becoming a province of the Russian empire in the 18th century. It was declared an independent republic in 1918, but in 1940 was annexed by the USSR as a constituent republic. The Growth of a nationalist movement in the 1980s led to demands for, and independence from Moscow. The currency of Lithuania is the Centai.
