NAKHICHEVAN ASSR

The Nakhichevan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic is an administrative division of the former southern Soviet Union, belonging to Azerbaijan, from which it is separated by part of Armenian. It was annexed by Russia in 1828 and unilaterally declared secession from the Soviet Union in 1990.
