NIUE

Niue (Savage Island) was formerly one of the Cook Islands. It has a total area of 260 km2. The climate is tropical; modified by south-east trade winds. The terrain is steep limestone cliffs along coast, central plateau. Natural resources are fish and arable land. The religion is 75% Ekalesia Nieue (Niuean Church)-a Protestant church closely related to the London Missionary Society, 10% Mormon, 5% Roman Catholic, Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventist. The language is a Polynesian tongue closely related to Tongan and Samoan and English.
