NUPE

Nupe was an Islamic state in central Nigeria. The state resisted Europeans until it was conquered in 1896 by forces of the British Royal Niger Company under the command of Sir George Goldie, where upon the southern half of the emirate was ceded to the British and a new emir likely to be sympathetic to the company installed. Nupe was later incorporated into the colony of Nigeria.
