RWANDA

The Republic of Rwanda is a country in central Africa. It has a total area of 26,340 km2. The climate is temperate with two rainy seasons - February to April and November to January - mild in the mountains with frost and snow possible. The terrain is mostly grassy uplands and hills with mountains in the west. Natural resources are gold, cassiterite, wolframite, natural gas and hydropower. The religion is Roman Catholic 65%, Protestant 9%, Muslim 1%, indigenous beliefs and other 25%. The official language is French, with Kinyarwanda and Kiswahili also spoken. The area of Rwanda is occupied by three peoples: Hutu, Tutsi and Twa. In 1962 the area became independent.
