URUGUAY

The Eastern Republic of Uruguay is a country in South America. It has a total area of 176,220 km2. The climate is warm and temperate with freezing temperatures almost unknown. The terrain is mostly rolling plains and low hills with a fertile coastal lowland. Natural resources are soil, hydropower potential, minor minerals. The religion is 66% Roman Catholic. The language is Spanish. Uruguay was invaded by the Spanish in 1624 and the Portuguese in 1680, and became part of Spains colonial empire during the 18th century before declaring independence in 1808, expelling the Spanish in 1814 only to be annexed by Brazil in 1820 and achieving full independence in 1830.
