YORK

York (recorded in the Domesday Book as Euruic) is a city in north Yorkshire, England.

York is a town in York County, Maine, USA. York was founded in 1641 on the site of a settlement then known as Bristol, as Acomenticus, and later incorporated in 1642 under the grant of the charter of Maine to Sir Ferdinando Gorges and others under the name Gorgeana. York was the second town settled in the State of Maine. On February the 5th, 1692, York was attacked by Indians, over 160 inhabitants massacred and the town burned.
