An ulcer is a break in the skin; a deep sore; or a sore on the skin surface or on the stomach lining that can become infected. People with diabetes may get ulcers from minor scrapes on the feet or legs, from cuts that heal slowly, or from the rubbing of shoes that do not fit well.
Research Ulcer
Ulcerative colitis is a serious disease that causes ulcers and irritation in the inner lining of the colon and rectum.

The ulna is the internal of the two long bones (the other is the radius) which form the lower arm (forearm). The ulna articulates at each end with the ends of the radius, with the humerus at the elbow, and some of the carpal bones at the wrist. When the hand is turned with the palm facing up (called supination), the ulna is on the medial (little finger) side of the forearm. When the hand is placed with the palm down (called pronation), the radius crosses over the ulna in mid-forearm.
Research Ulna
The ulnar artery is the largest branch of the brachial artery. It arises just below the elbow and runs down the inside of the forearm to the palm. It supplies the arm and the palm.
Research Ulnar Artery
The ulnar nerves branch off of the spinal cord between the eighth cervical and first thoracic vertebrae. They extend down the arm and innervate the ulnar side of the forearm, wrist, hand, and fingers.

The ulnar vein can be divided into three sections: the common ulnar, the anterior ulnar, and the posterior ulnar veins. The common ulnar vein is short and thick and formed by a junction of the anterior and posterior ulnar veins. The presence of the common ulnar vein varies form person to person. The anterior ulnar vein extends along the ulna to the elbow joint, where it joins the posterior ulnar vein to form the common ulnar. If the common ulnar is not present it joins directly with the median basilic vein. The posterior ulnar vein runs along the posterior surface of the ulna to the elbow joint where it joins with the common ulnar vein or the median basilic vein.

The umbilical cord is the communicating channel between the placenta and the foetus. It sends waste products from the foetus to the placenta and returns the blood from the placenta to the foetus. At birth the arteries in the umbilical cord constrict and close, stopping the blood flow to the placenta. Soon after the birth the umbilical cord is cut short and securely clamped.

The upper GI series are X-rays of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum. The patient swallows barium first that makes the organs show up on x-rays.

Uraemia is a condition of blood poisoning which occurs when the kidneys fail to function properly, as in Bright's disease and fail to excrete urea which is retained in the blood and upsets the nervous system, causing drowsiness, headaches, giddiness and in extreme cases coma.

The Ureters are two membranous tubes which carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder in vertebrates. Each of the two ureters is a narrow tube which measures approximately 38 cm long, and about 3 mm in diameter. The ureters pass from the renal pelvis, within the kidneys, out of the hilus of each kidney, down the back of the abdominal cavity to the bladder. The ureters allow passage of urine from the kidneys to the bladder, where it is stored awaiting discharge. Because of peristaltic waves (periodic contractions) starting at the renal pelvis, the urine is sent down the ureters every twenty or thirty seconds or so, rather than in a continuous flow. These peristaltic waves cause the ureteric orifice (the opening into the bladder from each ureter) to open for a few seconds as each wave sends the urine down the ureter, whereupon the orifice closes again to await the next wave.

The urethra is a membranous canal which leads from the bladder to the outside world. It channels urine from the bladder out of the body.

Urine is a fluid produced by the kidneys. Urine contains the end products of nitrogen metabolism - urea, uric acid and creatinine as well as sodium chloride. Urine is extensively tested in medicine for the diagnosis of disease, and immunological analysis of urine is commonly used to test for pregnancy in humans.
In industry, a dilute solution of urine was long traditionally used as a degreaser for sheep's wool before it was combed, spun and woven.

The uterus, or womb, in which the foetus grows is a thick-walled, hollow, pear-shaped organ, with two parts, the body above and the narrower cervix which protrudes into the vagina below. Its position in the female body is between the bladder and the rectum. During pregnancy the uterus expands as the foetus grows, increasing thirtyfold by full term. Uterine contractions are usually the beginning of the labour process. When the uterus starts contracting, it presses the amniotic sac into the cervix, which ruptures the sac. In the second stage of labour the uterine contractions become more severe and are aided by the contraction of the abdominal muscles in propelling the foetus through the vagina. After delivery the uterus contracts in volume and slowly shrinks.

The uvulae is a small conical prolongation from the middle of the soft palate.
Research Uvulae
The uvulae muscle (azygos uvulae; palatouvularis) is a small muscle that originates from the nasal spine and inserts in the tissue of the uvulae. The uvulae muscle is innervated by the pharyngeal plexus.
