The ZU-23 is a Russian 23 mm calibre gas-operated automatic cannon mounted on two-wheeled infantry trailers, Mi-24 Helicopters and Su-25attackjets. It has a rate of fire of between 800 and 1000 rounds per minute and a muzzle velocity of 970 meters per second and can pierce 30 mm of armour at 500 meters. It was designed in the 1940s and has become the standard gun mounted in Russian jet aircraft.
