The USS United States is an American Nimitz Class aircraft carrier of 73973 tons displacement launched in 1996. USS United States is powered by two pressurised-water cooled A4W/A1G nuclear reactors driving four geared steam turbines providing a top speed in excess of 30 knots. She carries a crew of 6054 comprising 3184 ships crew including 203 officers; 2800 aircrew including 366 officers; and 70 flag crew including 25 officers. Armaments consist of three Raytheon GMLS Mk 29 octuple surface-to-air missile launchers taking the NATO Sea Sparrow missile and four General Electric/General Dynamics 20 mm Vulcan Phalanx 6-barrel Mk 15 guns. She can carry twenty F14 Tomcat; twenty F/A-18 Boeing Hornet; six EA-6B Prowler; twenty A-6E Intruder; five E-2 Hawkeye; ten S-3A/B Viking aircraft in addition to six Sea King helicopters.
