Bless This House was a British situation comedy television show about a fictional suburban stationery salesman ('Sidney Abbott' played by Sid James) who longs for a quiet life, but never gets one due to his wife and two teenage children. Bless This House was produced by Thames television and ran from 1971 to 1976.

ABBOTT LAWRENCE

Abbott Lawrence was an American politician. He was born in 1792 and died in 1855. He represented Massachusetts in the US Congress as a Whig from 1835 to 1837. He was Minister to Great Britain from 1847 to 1852. He founded the Lawrence Scientific School at Harvard College.

BERENICE ABBOTT

Berenice Abbott was an American photographer. She was born in 1898 at Springfield, Ohio and died in 1991. She is famous for her documentation of New York City and for her pioneering camera work in the physical sciences. She studied sculpture in New York City and Paris before turning to photography in the mid-1920s at the suggestion of the American surrealist Man Ray. Through Ray she met the photographer Eugene Atget just before his death in 1927 and worked tirelessly to spread his fame. She Returned to the USA in 1929 and resolved to record New York City with a camera in the manner that Atget had recorded Paris; the result was her epic ' Changing New York'. From the 1940s to the 1960s Abbott explored natural phenomena (such as magnetism) with a camera.

Charles Abbott Tenterden (Baron Tenterden) was an English lawyer. He was born in 1762 at Canterbury and died in 1832. Educated at King's School, Canterbury and Corpus Christi, Oxford, he entered the Middle Temple in 1787 and practised at the bar before being called from the Inner Temple in 1796. He gained a reputation as an authority on marine and mercantile law and was appointed a judge in 1816 and lord chief justice in 1818. He was made a peer in 1827.

DIANE ABBOTT

Diane Julie Abbott is an English politician. She was born in 1953. After being educated at Cambridge she worked for the National Council for Civil Liberties, the Greater London Council and Lambeth Borough Council before being elected to Parliament as member for Hackney North and Stoke Newington in 1987. A member of the Labour party since 1971, she was the first 'Black' woman to be elected to the British government.

GRACE ABBOTT

Grace Abbott was an American social reformer and writer. She was born in 1878 at Grand Island, Nebraska and died in 1939. She campaigned against the exploitation of immigrant workers and child labour and was the unofficial American representative to the League of Nations Advisory Committee on Traffic in women and Children from 1922 to 1934.

JOHN ABBOTT

John White Abbott was an English amateur landscape painter. He was born in 1763 and died in 1851. A follower of Francis Towne, he exhibited oil paintings at the Royal Academy between 1793 and 1805 and again in 1810 and in 1822 but although these were praised at the time, after his death his monochrome pen and ink drawings were more sought after.
Sir John Joseph Caldwell Abbott was a Canadian politician. He was born in 1821 at Saint Andrews, Quebec and died in 1893. He was the first Canadian-born Prime Minister of Canada, a post he held from 1891 to 1892.

Lemuel Francis Abbott was an English portrait painter. He was born in 1760 and died in 1803. He is best known for his portrait 'Nelson' which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
