BROWN

Brown is a colour which may be regarded as a mixture of red and black, or of red, black, and yellow. ALMOND

The almond (Prunus dulcis, formerly Amygdalus communis) is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to the Caucasus region, of the family Rosaceae with a smooth reddish coloured bark, spreading branches and alternate, stalked, rectangular to lanceolate, glossy and finely serrate leaves. The almond grows usually to the height of six meters, and is akin to the peach and nectarine. The flowers are sessile, white or pink in colour and appear in early spring before the leaves. The fruit is an elliptical, light-green coloured, velvety drupe which contains one oval seed in a hard- pitted shell. The almond was introduced to southern Europe in ancient times, and started being grown in Britain in the 16th century for its blossom, since the fruit doe not ripen in Britain.

DOBERMAN PINSCHER

The Doberman Pinscher (or Dobermann) is an energetic breed of German working dog with a reputation as a fierce guard dog. They have a black, reddish, blue, or fawn coat which is short, smooth, glossy, and is usually highlighted with tan shadings. The ears are large, broad at the base and cropped to stand erect and pointed. The tail is docked to a stump and the eyes are brown and almond-shaped with a keen, always-alert expression. The adult dog stands about 70 centimetres at the shoulder and weighs about 30 kg. The breed originated in Apolda, Thuringia in about 1890 and takes its name from tax collector Louis Dobermann of Apolda, who used these dogs to aid him in his work.

EGYPTIAN MAU

The Egyptian Mau is a ancient breed of shorthaired domestic cat first brought out of Europe in 1955 and into Britain in 1978. The Egyptian Mau is distinguished by a spotted coat which sharply contrasts with the ground colour. The body is cobby, but long, of medium size and graceful and muscular. The eyes are large, almond-shaped and slant slightly upwards towards the ears. An active and agile cat, the Egyptian Mau needs lots of exercise and doesn't like being left alone. An intelligent cat, they often learn how to open doors and windows to seek exercise, and can be trained to walk on a lead.

The Somali is a breed of long-haired cat renowned for its playful attentiveness and for its keen abilities as a mouser and hunter of small game. It has a lush and slightly shaggy coat, each individual hair carrying ten or more colour tickings, giving the coat a very rich colour density. The ears are large, pointed, and set wide apart, the tail is full and brushy and held over the back when the cat is moving. The eyes are hazel, amber, or green and almond-shaped. It has a lively and shrewd demeanour and is suited to a life indoors, although it needs space to run and play.

The Turkish angora is a breed of long-haired cat renowned for its ability to remain immobile for long periods and for its love of water and bathing. The coat is very fine, silky, and wavy. The ears are large, wide at the base, and pointed, the tail is long, tapering, and usually carried curled, the eyes are large and almond-shaped. The Angora is very responsive to its owner's wishes and enjoys retrieval games.
