Anona is a genus of plants, the type of the natural order Anonaceae. Anona squamdsa (sweet-sop) grows in the West Indian Islands, and yields an edible fruit having a thick, sweet, luscious pulp. Anona muricata, (sour-sop) is cultivated in the West and East Indies; it produces a large pear-shaped fruit, of a greenish colour, containing an agreeable slightly acidpulp. The genus produces other edible fruits, as the common custard-apple or bullock's heart, from Anona reticulata, and the cherimoyer of Peru, from Anona Cherimolia. Research Anona
The custard-apple (Anona reticulata) is a fruit native to the West Indies, but cultivated in most tropical countries. The fruit is large, and heart-shaped, with a thick, rough exterior, and containing a pulp of a sweet flavour, very cooling and agreeable. Cherimoyer is the fruit of the Anona Cherimolia, a native of South and Central America, allied to the custard-apple. It is a heart-shaped fruit with a scaly exterior, and numerous seeds buried in a deliciouspulp. Both flowers and fruit emit a pleasant fragrance. This fruit is cultivated in various tropical regions.
