Arrhythmia is a disturbance of the normal rhythm of the heart. There are various kinds of arrhythmia, some benign, some indicative of heart disease. In extreme cases, the heart may beat so fast as to be potentially lethal and surgery may be used to correct the condition. Extra beats between the normal ones are called extrasystoles; abnormal slowing is known as bradycardia and speeding up is known as tachycardia. Research Arrhythmia
Carditis is a general term for inflammation of any part of the heart or its linings. Coxsackie is a form of viral carditis. In most cases more than one layer of the heart muscle is infected. Myocarditis or pericarditis may be the only manifestation of the infection. The infection has an incubation period of three to five days and may produce symptoms such as chest pain, cardiac arrhythmia, circulatory failure, and damage to the structures of the heart. The virus is transmitted through fecal-oral or respiratory droplet contact with an infected person. Research Carditis
Lignocaine is a short-term local anaesthetic injected into tissues or applied to skin. It is effective for brief, invasive procedures such as dental care or insertion of a cannula into a vein. Temporary paralysis (to prevent involuntary movement during eye surgery, for example) can be achieved by injection directly into the nerve serving the region. Rapidly absorbed by mucous membranes, lignocaine may be sprayed into the nose or throat to allow comfortable insertion of a viewing instrument during endoscopy. Its action makes it a potent anti-arrhythmia drug as well: given intravenously during or following a heartattack, it reduces the risk of cardiac arrest. Research Lignocaine
