In architecture, a balcony is a platform projecting from the wall of a building, usually resting on brackets or consoles, and enclosed by a parapet; for example as a balcony in front of a window. A soffit is the underside of any architectural structure. For example an arch, balcony, cornice, vault, etc. The term is especially applied to the under-surface of a board nailed to the underside of rafters under overhanging eaves.
