A baldric is an ornamental belt worn over one shoulder and around the opposite side, diagonally across the body. It was designed to show off the rank of the wearer and be used to support a sword or bugle. Baldrics were often highly decorated and enriched with gems, and used not only to sustain the sword, dagger, or horn, but also for purposes of ornament, and as a military or heraldic symbol. The fashion appears to have reached its height in the fifteenth century. Research Baldric
