The Black Gum (Nyssa multiflora) is an American tree of the natural order Cornaceae yielding a close-grained, useful wood. The fruit is a drupe of a blue-black colour, whence it seems to get its name of 'black': it has no gum about it. It is called also pepperidge, and has been introduced into Europe as an ornamental tree. Research Black Gum
