ABBOTT AND COSTELLO

Abbott and Costello were an American comedy film partnership comprising Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. Both men had theatrical experience before teaming up as a comedy double act, Costello playing the clown and Abbott his straight man. They began performing on radio in 1938, appeared on Broadway in 1939 and made a number of successful comedy films, beginning with Buck Rivates in 1941.

Bud Abbott (originally William A Abbott) was an American comedian and actor. He was born in 1895 at Asbury Park, New Jersey, and died in 1974. He teamed up with Lou Costello in 1931 and the couple worked as a comedy double-act in vaudeville before migrating to films.

Lou Costello (originally Louis Francis Cristillo) was an American comedian and actor. He was born in 1908 at Paterson, New Jersey and died in 1959. He teamed up with Bud Abbott in 1931 and played the bumbling clown to Bud Abbott's 'straight-man'.
