The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was an American sports car produced between 1963 and 1967. The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was powered by a V-eight engine, varying in capacity between 5365 and 7000 cc and providing between 250 and 560 bhp, and a top speed of between 190 and 235 kmh depending upon engine.

Jules Sebastien Cesar Dumont D'Urville was a French navigator. He was born in 1790 and died in 1842 in a railway accident between Paris and Versailles. After completing his studies at Caen he entered the French navy, in which he ultimately rose to be rear-admiral. In 1826-1829 he commanded the corvette Astrolabe, which was sent to discover the fate of the La Perouse, and to make hydrographic observations. He made surveys of the coasts of Australia, New Zealand, etc, and found remains of the shipwreck of La Perouse on one of the Pacific islands. The result of this voyage was the publication of Voyage de Decouverte autour du Monde. In 1837 he sailed with the Astrolabe and Zelee. on a voyage of Antarctic discovery, and after many dangers, and having visited many parts of Oceania, he returned in 1840. On his return began the publication of Voyageau Pole sud et dans l'Oceanie which was finished by one of his companions.

The Battle of Angamos was a naval battle fought off Angamos Point, north of Antofagasta in Chile on October the 8th 1879 between the Peruvian ironclad Huascar and the Chilean ironclad Blanco Encalada and Almirante Cochrane, assisted by the corvette Covadonga. The battle lasted one and a half hours when the Peruvians were forced to surrender.

The Challenger Expedition was a voyage for the scientific purposes of investigating the conditions of life in the deep sea of the Atlantic, Pacific and Antarctic Oceans organised in 1872 by the British government. The corvette Challenger started from Sheerness in December 1872 and returned in May 1876 after collecting information about the ocean beds, currents, temperature and also collecting samples of fauna.
