D'HALVE MAEN

The D'Halve Maen was a Dutch vlieboot sailing ship of 80 tons displacement built in 1608. The D'Halve Maen had three masts, square-rigged on the fore and main with topsails, lateen-rigged on the mizzen and was armed with two guns each side. She was a deep-sea trading ship and carried a crew of between 17 and 20 between Holland and the East Indies for the Dutch East Indies company. In 1609 the D'Halve Maen was used by Henry Hudson on a voyage of exploration to the Hudson River where he claimed lands for Holland and England.
