BARTOLOMEU DIAS

The Bartolomeu Dias was a Portuguese 1st class sloop of 1816 tons displacement launched in 1934. The Bartolomeu Dias was powered by two Yarrow boilers providing a top speed of 21 knots and a range of 12800 km at 10 knots. She carried a peace time complement of 189, rising to 229 in war and an aircraft. She was armed with four 4.7 inch guns; two 3 inch anti-aircraft guns; four 40 mm anti-aircraft guns and two depth charge throwers and could also carry forty mines.

The Marcilio Dias was a Brazilian destroyer of 1500 tons displacement launched in 1940. The Marcilio Dias was powered by four Babcock and Wilcox high pressure water tube boilers providing a top speed of 36.5 knots and carried a complement of 190. She was armed with five 5 inch dual-purpose guns; four 40 mm anti-aircraft guns; four 20 mm anti-aircraft guns and twelve 21 inch torpedo tubes arranged in three quadruples.
