DIAPASON 1A

The Diapason 1A was a French geological research satellite launched in 1966 with the purpose of establishing the earth's shape and precise intercontinental distances. The Diapason 1A was a simple cylinder, about 50 cm in diameter and 20 cm long with four unfolding solar panels to provide electrical power in orbit.

SEREB DIAMANT

The Sereb Diamant was a French three-stage space rocket of the 1960's designed as a launch vehicle to put into orbit satellites weighing up to 80 kg. A Sereb Diamant rocket launched the Asterix 1(A1) test satellite in November 1965, the Diapason 1A satellite in February 1966 and the Diademe 1 Satellite in February 1967, these being the first orbital launchings made by a country other than the USA and USSR. The Sereb Diamant was 1875 cm long and had a maximum diameter of 140 cm.

DIAPASON

In music, a diapason is the concord of the first and last notes of an octave. The word is also used for the most important foundation-stops of an organ. They are of several kinds, as open diapason, stopped diapason, double diapason. The French use the term as equivalent to pitch in music.
