LOVELETTER

The LoveLetter worm (also known as Lovebug, I-Worm.Loveletter and ILOVEYOU) is a VBScript worm. It spreads through email as a chain letter. The worm uses the Outlook e-mail application to spread.
LoveLetter is also a overwriting VBS virus, and it spreads itself using mIRC client as well. The worm uses Outlook to mass mail itself to everyone in each address book. The message that it sends will be as follows: Subject: ILOVEYOU Body: kindly check the attached LOVELETTER coming from me. Attachment: LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs
LoveLetter sends the mail once to each recipient. After a mail has been sent, it adds a marker to the registry and does not mass mail itself any more.

TRANSPONDER

Transponder is an Internet Explorer Browser Helper Object parasite written in Microsoft Visual C++ that monitors web pages requested and the data entered into forms (including secure forms), and sends this information to its home server.
Transponder also opens pop-up advertisement windows and has the capability to update itself and install other software, all without the user's knowledge or permission. There are various variants of Transponder, the VX2 variant was stealth-installed by version 0.608W of the AudioGalaxy Satellite up until some time in November 2001, when after public outcry it was removed. The Blackstone variant is installed with all software from Mindset Interactive. Other variants are commonly installed by pornographic web sites through security holes in Internet Explorer. The main security concerns about Transponder are that it reports back to its servers with URLs visited, data entered into web forms, the host computer configuration and software that is installed. If the host computer has its e-mail address set in Outlook Express, that will be sent to Mindset Interactive to be sold in mass marketing lists. Removal of the parasite has to be done manually by unregistering the associated file (IEHelper.dll, VX2.dll,
MSView.dll or TPS108.dll) from the Windows directory, restarting the host computer and then deleting the parasite file from the Windows directory.
