LOHENGRIN

Lohengrin is the hero of a German poem of the end of the 13th century, represented as the son of Parcival and one of the guardians of the Holy Grail. Sent by King Arthur to help the Princess Elsa of Brabant, he arrives in a vehicle drawn by a swan, delivers the princess from captivity, and marries her; accompanies the emperor in a campaign against the Hungarians, and fights against the Saracens. He then returns to his bride at Cologne, but being pressed by her to state his origin he is prevailed upon to tell it, after which he must, in terms of his vow, return home to the Grail. The legend has been made the subject of a well-known opera by Wagner.
