AKHAL-TEKE

The Akhal-Teke is a Turkmenistan breed of light horse, originating around 1000 BC or before. The Akhal-Teke stands between 14 and 15 hands high and is dun, palomino, bay chestnut or grey in colour and have a sparse mane and tail. They are very long and slender through the frame with a finely modelled head and an unusually long and muscular neck. The shoulders are sloping, allowing a soft gait. The withers are high, and the back is long with a shallow ribcage. The legs are long and fine boned. The Akhal-Teke makes a good riding horse, having a brave but stubborn temperament. Traditionally they are used for racing, and are respected for their endurance.

APPALOOSA

The Appaloosa is an American breed of horse developed by the Nez Perces Indians of North-West America from horses imported by the Spanish conquistadors during the 16th century. The Appaloosa stands between 14 and 15 hands high, and is characterised by its spotted markings - a characteristic which formerly provided it with camouflage. The Appaloosa also has good stamina, endurance, speed and athletic prowess. The breed was all but destroyed by the American army during the 19th century, but was recreated in 1938 by a group of breeders using the Indian's techniques.

BARB

The Barb is an ancient North African Barbary breed of horse. The Barb stands between 14 and 15 hands high and is mostly grey, but also bay, brown or chestnut in colour. They are a desert horse, with great endurance and very strong feet which rarely go lame. They are a temperamental breed, which has been much used in cross breeding other horses, particularly the Spanish horses.

Bhutia stands 13 hands high, is mostly grey in colour but may also be chestnut or brown and is of a good-natured but spirited temperament. The Bhutia has stamina and endurance and is used as a packhorse.

FINNISH UNIVERSAL

The Finnish Universal is a Finnish breed of versatile horse endowered with pulling power, speed, endurance and agility. The Finnish Universal stands 15.2 hands high and is mostly chestnut in colour, though they can also be bay, grey, black or brown in colour. Many Finnish Universal horses have a white blaze on their face and long, coarse forelocks and mane.

The Florida Cracker Horse is an American breed of horse registered since 1989, but tracing its ancestry back to the original Spanish horses introduced to the Florida are in the 16th century. The Florida Cracker Horse stands between 14 and 15 hands high and is renowned for its endurance, being able to carry a man all day, which led to their adoption by early cowboys. They occur in many colours.

The Morgan horse is a breed of American riding and driving show horse developed in the 1780s from a single stallion named Justin Morgan after his owner. They are marked by high, curved necks and high stepping action. The breed is valued for its strength, endurance, and speed, and are used to breed with other breeds to improve them. The Morgan Horse stands between 14.2 and 15.2 hands high and occurs in any solid colour.

A small heavy horse, standing 15 hands high, they are renowned for their strength and endurance, and are used for forest and lumber work. The Novokirghiz is a Kirghizian breed of tough harness and riding horse used for agricultural work, pack work and riding. The Novokirghiz is a tough breed with stamina and endurance able to cope with any kind of terrain and also amenable and energetic. They stand between 14 and 15 hands high and are bay, brown, grey or chestnut in colour.
