The USS Connecticut is an American Seawolf class submarine with a submerged displacement of 8060 tons dived, and 7,700 tons surfaced. It is 107.6 metres long by 12.9m by 10.9m. Full acoustic cladding has been installed and it has a maximum speed of 35 knots dived, and a 'silent' speed of 20 knots. It can accommodate 134 personnel, including 14 officers. The Seawolf Class has greater manoeuvrability than the 57-strong Los Angeles Class fleet, space for later upgrades and weapons developments, and better sonar. With a diving depth of 610 meters, it has been designed with a sub-ice capability, with retractable bow planes.
The USS Connecticut is driven by nuclear power, it has GE PWR S6W reactor system, two turbines, of 52,000hp, a pump jet propulsor, a single shaft, and one Westinghouse secondary propulsion submerged motor. The USS Connecticut does not have any external weapons, but is armed with Raytheon Tomahawk missiles (TLAM-N), guided by a Tercom Aided Inertial Navigation System (nuclear warheads are not usually carried); GDC/Hughes Tomahawk missiles, a Boeing Harpoon, Gould Mk-48 ADCAP wire-guided torpedoes in 660m tubes; torpedo decoys, with a WLY-1 system, and a WLQ-4(V) 1 intercept. Combat data systems are run by a LockheedMartin BSY-2 system with a network of some 70 or so 68030 Motorola processors. Weapons control is managed by the system's own FCS. The submarine's sonar suite employs TB-16 and TB-29 towed arrays, one surveillance and one tactical, and the navigationradar is a BPS 16, I-band. Research Connecticut
