Research Results For 'Galatea III'

GALATEA III

HMS Galatea was a British Leander Class frigate of 2500 tons displacement built by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson and launched in 1963. She was decommissioned in 1987 and sold for scrapping in 1988. She was armed with two quad Seacat missile launchers; two 40 mm anti-aircraft guns; one Ikara and one Limbo anti-submarine mortar. She carried a Wasp helicopter and carried a complement of 257. In March 1976 she was rammed by the Icelandic gunboat Baldur, causing bow damage. She was decommissioned in 1987.
