Jean Pierre Claris de Florian was a French writer. He was born in 1755 and died in 1794. He was patronized by Voltaire, and gained fame as a writer of fables, pastorals, romances, and comedies. He was imprisoned during the revolution, but the fall of Robespierre saved him from the guillotine. His romances Galatee, Estelle, Gonzalve de Cordoue, Numa Pompilius, his fables, and translation of Don Quixote are his best works. Research Jean de Florian
The Galatee was a French Simonot type Sirene Class submarine of 548 tons displacement surfaced launched in 1925. The Galatee was powered by two sets of 2-cycle Sulzer diesel engines providing a top speed of 14 knots surfaced and 7.5 knots submerged and a range of 3200 km at 10 knots on the surface, and carried a complement of 40.
