A jack or jaque was a coat of mail defensive body armour worn by troops from the 14th to the 17th century. It consisted of a leathersurcoat worn over the hauberk, and was sometimes quilted like a gambeson.
A gambeson or gipon was a quilted and padded or stuffed leather or cloth garment worn under chainmail in the Middle Ages. The Christian crusaders wore a parti-coloured gambeson. Later the gambeson was worn as a type of doublet by men and women. Research Gambeson
