The City Line was an English steamship company plying between Glasgow and Liverpool, London and Bombay and Karachi. It was founded in 1839 by George Smith and Sons and sold in 1901 to J R Ellerman.

CLAN LINE

The Clan Line was a British steamship line begun in 1878 conducting a fortnightly service from Liverpool and Glasgow to Karachi and Bombay. In 1881 and 1882 the business was expanded and started calling also at south and east African ports, Colombo, Madras and Calcutta. In 1893 the service was further extended with a service from New York to south and east African ports.
