The ISO (International Standards Organisation) assigns a two character code to each country name. These codes are used by Internet 'whois' databases (these two character abbreviations are the whois country codes) and also other applications.

The Khoikhoi (formerly Hottentot) are a people living in Namibia and the Cape Province of South Africa, and numbering about 30,000. Their language is related to San (spoken by the Kung) and belongs to the Khoisan family. Like the Kung, the Khoikhoi once inhabited a wider area, but were driven into the Kalahari Desert by invading Bantu peoples and Dutch colonists in the 18th century. They live as nomadic hunter-gatherers, in family groups, and have animist beliefs.

The Kxoe (also known as the Water Bushmen) are an aboriginal people of Namibia. The Kxoe live mainly in the west Caprivi region of Namibia where they are hunter-gatherers, fishermen and farmers.

The Herero Wars were a series of campaigns from 1904 to 1908 waged by German colonialists against the Herero people in German south-west Africa. A Herero rebellion resulted in the near- extermination of the population by the Germans, their numbers falling from over 100,000 to 15,000. The survivors were resettled in the inhospitable desert land of contemporary Hereroland in Namibia.

Caprivi (formerly known as the Caprivi Strip) is a region of Namibia, about 450 km long and between 30 and 100 km wide extending east from the north of the country. The area of land was owned by Britain until 1893 when it was acquired by Germany under agreement, but really is the homeland of the Kxoe people.
